As Conrad.de offers this WLAN USB adapter for € 9.95 at the moment, I decided to try one with Ubuntu 9.10.
Having a Realtek chipset - as the earlier described HAMA stick - just swapping the 2 sticks was successful!
So sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-karmic is the solution here also!
Is there any cheaper Ubuntu compatible WLAN stick?

SCALEO P D1740 Upgrade
I replaced the motherboard again with a Biostar GF8200C M2+, installing the recovery XP. Installation of drivers was very easy, due to the installation application from Biostar.
